Environmental responsibility

RESPONSE is committed to carrying out our business in an environmentally responsible manner. As an organisation with care and respect at the heart of our values, we recognise the need to understand and reduce the impact that our business has on the environment.

Our ISO 14001 certification recognised the hard work of our staff and dedicated environmental team.

Commitment and action

  • Reduction in fossil fuel consumption. Our buildings, technology systems and workforce travel all consume fossil fuels which increase overall carbon emissions. We are committed to reducing these emissions where possible, using improved technology, employee communication, education, and motivating our workforce to reduce energy use individually
  • Pollution prevention. We operate an Environmental Management System aligned with ISO 14001:2004 and ensure that we are compliant with all environmental legislation. We prevent pollution by controlling the disposal of hazardous materials and emissions to the environment
  • Waste reduction and recycling. The overall amount of waste being generated by our business is constantly being reduced. We are committed to increasing the proportion of waste going for recycling rather than to landfill
  • Responsible suppliers. We monitor our supply chain to ensure that our suppliers meet our strict environmental policy requirements
  • Changing behaviours. We provide information to employees, contractors and other stakeholders to help individuals make informed choices on environmental issues. Our 'Go Green' team encourage environmentally-responsible behaviours to reduce energy consumption and waste
  • Careful monitoring and control. We regularly monitor our performance against defined Key Performance Indicators and targets and report progress to the business. We issue regular communication regarding our achievements against these objectives, and our Leadership Team review the effectiveness of our environmental management system and look for opportunities for improvement on a regular basis

Results

As a result of implementing our ISO14001:2004 accredited Environmental Management System

RESPONSE has delivered the following:

  • Electricity usage reduced by 30%
  • Paper useage reduced by 25%
  • 50% of all waste produced now recycled
  • Waste production cut by 34%

(2012 figures compared against 2010 Baseline).
