RESPONSE has chosen Yorkhill Children’s Foundation as its charity of the year following a company-wide vote.
The Glasgow based contact management centre regularly supports local charities with staff taking part in fundraising initiatives, however this year RESPONSE has decided to focus its efforts on one charity.
The company has set an ambitious target of £20,000 to be raised during the next 12 months through various events and activities carried out by staff. This money raised will be put towards an in-patient simultaneous EEG/Video telemetry equipment, which is used to help diagnose children with epilepsy, one of the most common serious neurological disorders of childhood. It will be placed in Yorkhill’s Fraser of Allander Neurosciences Unit and will allow the team there to provide gold standard treatment of children with epilepsy.
Yorkhill Children’s Foundation, based at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, aims to provide equipment and resources for sick children and babies from all over Scotland who are treated within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The charity depends on support from companies like RESPONSE to enable them to continue their services every year.
RESPONSE’s managing director Brian Bannatyne said: “It was important to pick a charity that staff would really get behind and a number of employees have either had experiences of Yorkhill with their own children, or through friends and family.
“This was therefore a charity very close to people’s hearts. As a result we hope that staff will get behind the fundraising activity we intend to carry out over the coming year to reach, and hopefully surpass, our target goal of £20,000. We believe this is achievable and will make a real difference to the kids and families at Yorkhill. Epilepsy is very difficult to diagnose so anything we can do to help raise as much money as possible toward buying this much needed equipment will be so beneficial.”
Chief Executive of Yorkhill Children’s Foundation, Shona Cardle added: “The team in Yorkhill’s Fraser of Allander Unit and everyone at Yorkhill Children’s Foundation is hugely grateful to RESPONSE for choosing to support our charity over the coming year. This new medical equipment will make a significant difference to the hospital and will allow us to diagnose and treat many more children with epilepsy than ever before.”
